چکیده

This retrospective study examines the relationship between auditory steady-state evoked potential (ASSEP) thresholds determined in infancy and subsequently obtained behavioral hearing levels in children with normal hearing or varying degrees of sensorineural hearing loss. Overall, the results from 211 subjects showed that the two test techniques were highly correlated, with Pearson r values exceeding .95 at each of the audiometric test frequencies between 500 and 4000 Hz. Analysis of the findings for babies with significant hearing loss (moderate to profound levels) showed similar threshold relationships to those obtained in previous studies involving adults and older children. The results for infants with normal or near-normal hearing did, however, differ from those reported for older subjects, with behavioral thresholds typically 10 to 15 dB better than would have been predicted from their ASSEP levels.

Frequency-Specific ABR and ASSR Threshold Assessment in Young Infants

The importance of early identification and habilitation of hearing loss for improved access to auditory stimuli and for positive prognosis of speech and language is well established in the literature (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association [ASHA] 2004; Hyde 2005; Joint Commission on Infant Hearing [JCIH] 2007; Kennedy, McCann, Campbell, Kimm and Thornton 2005; Yoshinaga-Itano and Gravel 2...

Some Factors that May Influence the Accuracy of Auditory Brainstem Response Estimates of Hearing Loss

There has always been a need for objective tests that assess auditory function in infants, young children, and/or any patient whose developmental level precluded the use of behavioral audiometric techniques. Although several approaches have been tried, such as acoustic-reflex threshold, middle-latency response, and late auditory-evoked potential measurements, for the past twenty-five years, tha...

Normal multiple auditory steady-state response thresholds to air-conducted stimuli in infants.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Multiple auditory steady-state responses (ASSRs) to stimuli modulated at approximately 80 Hz are a promising technique for threshold estimation in infants, but additional data are required. RESEARCH DESIGN We obtained multiple ASSRs to air-conducted (AC) stimuli. STUDY SAMPLE There were 54 children in two age groups: > six months (N=32) and < or = six months (N=22). A...

Background: Cortical Evoked Response Audiometry (CERA) refers to prediction of behavioral pure-tone thresholds (500-4000 Hz) obtained by recording the N1-P2 complex of auditory long latency responses. CERA is the preferred method for frequency–specific estimation of audiogram in conscious adults and older children. CERA has an increased accuracy of determination of the hearing thresholds of ale...
